Privacy policy

Who runs this site

Gigi's Bird Aviary is a hobby website run by Gigi, an individual in the Greater Atlanta, Georgia area. It is not a business. Gigi’s Bird Aviary and Gigi’s Birds are run by the same person and share one database.

Questions or requests about your data: use the Contact form at the bottom of any page. We reply by email.

What we collect

  • If you create an account: your name, email address, optional phone number, your newsletter choice, and your password. We store only a one-way hash of the password, never the password itself.
  • If you fill in a form (a waitlist, “notify me” or contact form): your name, email address, any message you write, and which bird or page it was about.
  • Technical details sent with those forms and sign-ins: your IP address, your browser’s user-agent string, the page you arrived on, the referring website, and campaign tags in the link you followed (utm_source and similar).
  • Interest taps: when you tap a “coming soon” button we record which button, the page, and a random visitor ID stored in your browser. It doesn’t contain your name or email.

Why we use it

  • To reply to you and to run your account (sign-in, email verification, password reset).
  • To keep the site secure: blocking spam and repeated failed sign-ins.
  • To understand which birds and pages people are interested in.
  • To email you news only if you opted in. You can opt out at any time.

We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Services that process your data

  • Bluehost: hosts the server and database (United States).
  • Resend: sends account emails (verification, password reset) and internal notifications to Gigi.
  • Telegram: when you send a form, a notification with your name, email and message is sent to Gigi’s private Telegram chat.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile: checks that sign-up and password forms are sent by a person, not a bot.
  • Google Analytics: measures visits and page views using cookies.
  • Umami: privacy-friendly visit statistics, self-hosted on our own server. It sets no cookies.
  • Google Fonts: the site’s fonts load from Google, which sees your IP address.

Stored in your browser

  • aviary.refresh_token keeps you signed in (only if you sign in).
  • gb_visitor_id is the random visitor ID for interest taps.
  • gb_attribution_v1 (cleared when you close the tab) remembers how you arrived, so a later form can include it.
  • gb_internal and umami.disabled are set only for the site owner, to exclude their own visits.
  • Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*).

How long we keep it

Account and form details are kept until you ask us to delete them or close your account. Security records such as sign-in history are kept only as long as they are useful for security.

Your choices

You can ask to see, correct or delete your information by sending a message through the Contact form at the bottom of any page. You can block analytics with your browser’s privacy settings or a content blocker; the site still works.

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
